Altamont Community Unit School District #10 Board of Education met on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00pm.
To begin the meeting, the School Board approved the minutes from the September regular meeting and budget hearing. The School Board also heard reports from school administrators. Mr. Hill from the Altamont Grade School reported that enrollment is down 30 students from last year. It was also reported that Meet the Teacher Night that was held on September 13th was very successful. Mr. Tkachuk from Altamont Community High School reported that parking permits are available for students and 109 have been sold thus far. Tkachuk also reported that the third Manufacturing Day was held in Effingham County on Thursday, October 6th and that many high school students are interested in working after they have graduated. Tkachuk also informed the Board of upcoming events for the high school, including: a Financial Aid Information Night for the parents of the senior class on Monday, October 24th, a guest speaker being hosted by the Student Council on Wednesday, October 26th, and Meet the Indians to be held on Friday, November 11th. District superintendent, Mr. Fritchtnitch, informed the Board of a quote obtained from Hutchinson Recreation Design that is over $50,000. Fritchtnitch also informed the board of a meeting he held with representatives from Sea Group, a company in Springfield that is seeking school districts to partner with for the utilization of a learning component called Polycom.
In a closed session, the School Board accepted a letter of retirement from school cook, Sharon Goodin. Goodin’s retirement is effective on December 22, 2016. In other personnel moves made by the board, maternity leave for Mrs. Nikki Worman was approved, as well as the employment of Mrs. Michelle Stewart as a teacher aid and Mrs. Jessica Rosales as a crossing guard. Grace Ziegler and Cody Drone were approved for the positions of volunteer Assistant High School Girls Basketball Coach and volunteer Assistant High School Boys Basketball Coach, respectively.
