VOLLEYBALL
EFFINGHAM VS. MT. ZION
Effingham Varsity Volleyball fell to Mt. Zion in two games. Mt. Zion won game one by a score of 25-19. Mt. Zion then won game two by a score of 25-23. Effingham JV Volleyball lost to Mt. Zion in three games. Mt. Zion won game one by a score of 28-26. Effingham then came back to win game two by a score of 25-16. However Mt. Zion was able to win game three by a score of 26-24. Both Effingham teams will play Tuesday against Taylorville.
ST. ANTHONY VS. PATOKA
St. Anthony Varsity Volleyball lost to Patoka in two games. St. Anthony lost game one by a score of 25-20. St. Anthony lost game two by a score of 25-4. The St. Anthony JV team won in two games 25-14 and 25-16.
BASKETBALL
DIETERICH VS. SACRED HEART
Dieterich were able to defeat Sacred Heart in 7th Grade girls’ basketball 34-10. Dieterich were led in scoring by Boernger who had 11 points. Dieterich was also able to defeat Sacred Heart in 8th Grade girls’ basketball 31-16. Dieterich was led in scoring by Locey who had 10 points and Bloemer who had 9.
TENNIS
EFFINGHAM VS. OLNEY
Effingham Tennis fell to Olney 6-3. Effingham only won 2 out of the 6 singles matches. Effingham also won one of the doubles matches in three sets.
ST. ANTHONY VS. MT. ZION
St. Anthony was able to defeat Mt. Zion 9-3. St. Anthony won 4 out of the 6 singles matches. St. Anthony then won 2 out of 3 doubles matches.
GOLF
ST. ANTHONY GOLF
St. Anthony JV Golf team was able to defeat Mattoon JV 172-185. St. Anthony were led by Rios who shot at 38. Mattoon JV was led by Letner who shot a 41. St. Anthony’s next match is today against Hillsboro.
St. Anthony Girls Golf team finished second in a three team match. Effingham won the match with a 197. St. Anthony finished second with a 199. Mattoon finished third with a 204. Effingham was led by Brummer and Hirtzel who shot 46. St. Anthony was led by Wegman who shot a 44.
ALTAMONT GOLF
Altamont Golf lost to Ramsey in a matchup on Thursday. Ramsey finished with a team score of 169. Ramsey was led by Coss who shot a 40. Altamont had a team score of 171. Altamont was led by Miller who shot a 39.
SOCCER
ALTAMONT VS. VANDALIA
Altamont Soccer was able to defeat Vandalia 10-0. Altamont scored 8 goals in the first half. The win now improves Altamont to 7-6-1 on the season.
BASEBALL
FARINA VS. CISNE
South Central fell to Cisne 3-2. Farina got on the board with a run in the top of the first before Cisne tied it in the bottom of the first. Farina added another run in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Cisne however would respond with a run in the bottom of the third and fourth to get the 3-2 win.
CROSS COUNTRY
MATTOON INVITATIONAL
Charleston was able to get the team win in the Girls Invitational with 51 points. Mattoon finished second, followed by Mt. Zion, St. Anthony, and Effingham. Neoga finished 7th, Teutopolis finished 8th, and Newton finished 11th. Cumberland didn’t have enough runners to register a team score. Anna Lowry from Taylorville was the fastest with a time of 19:03.8. Miranda Fox of Effingham finished second followed by Sarah Carr of St. Anthony, Hope Griffin from Charleston and Alexis Monnet from Effingham. In the Boys Invitational it was Charleston getting the win with 70 points. Second place was Robinson, followed by Mt. Zion, Taylorville, and Mattoon. Cumberland finished 8th, Teutopolis finished 9th, Casey finished 10th, Newton finished 11th, Effingham finished 12th, Neoga finished 14th, and St. Anthony finished 14th. Mason Jones from Mt. Zion was the fastest with a 16:00.63. Second place went to Kort McCleilan from Cumberland followed by Austin Arnes from Charleston, Mitchell Kremer from Mattoon, and Nick Oakley from Charleston.
