Sometimes it is the smallest things that can lead to a win or loss and that is what happened as a blocked PAT led Effingham to a 35-34 win.
Jerseyville scored what would be the final touchdown with 7:20 left in the game making it 35-34. As Jerseyville attempted the PAT McCabe was able to force the block in what would be a game winning play.
Effingham scored first with a 25 yard touchdown pass from Wolfe to Miller to give Effingham a 7-0 lead. Jerseyville were able to tie the game at seven by the end of the first half. The Hearts got back in front in the second quarter on a 26 yard touchdown from Vasquez to Herron, however Jerseyville was able to tie the game shortly after. Effingham however didn’t get down and were able to score with 5.2 seconds left in the half on a 28 yard pass from Wolfe to Miller giving Effingham the 21-14 halftime lead. Effingham scored in the third quarter on a Wolfe one yard touchdown run before Jerseyville scored twice in the third quarter to tie the game at 28.
