The Cromwell Group of Effingham and 95.7 WCRC held a school supply drive on Wednesday in Flora, outside Walmart, for kids in need. All told, they gathered around 18-20 bins full of supplies donated from shoppers at Wal-Mart and an anonymous donor. Account Representative Bev Drake helped organize event and said that it was good to give back to the community.
With the start of school, many families face the realities of of having to struggle to afford school supplies and other necessities. According to Drake, Flora School District superintendent Joel Hackney was “awed” at the amount of donated supplies.
The event was sponsored by local businesses including Wal-Mart, Car Corral, Clay County Hospital, N.M.N. Club, The Country Closet, Uebinger’s Furniture, and Valbert’s Feed Store.
