(Springfield, IL) — Governor Bruce Rauner is putting his signature to a new law aimed at improving the reporting and prosecution process for victims of sexual assault. Rauner also signed a law Friday keeping police and their K-9 partners together. The sexual assault bill allows the State of Illinois to hire forensic analysts in a more timely manner, and lets victims request information about the status of their rape kit testing. The K-9 bill gives police officers top priority on adopting the K-9 dog when the animal is retired from police service. Rauner also vetoed a bill that would allow automatic registration for voting in Illinois.
