The Effingham County Tax and Fiance Committee voted to recommend the approval of the 2015 financial audit by West & Co. as presented by West & Co. partner David Faller.
According to Faller, the audit breaks into two areas, financial and federal. In both areas of the audit the county received a “clean” or “unmodified” rating, meaning that the fiances were accurately presented. Several major capital purchases highlighted in the presentation included the Trec Phase 3, new financial software, a new salt shed, and dump truck for the highway department.
The committee also had a discussion on a possible ordinance banning Sharia Law in the county, but the issue was tabled indefinitely. Committee Chair Rob Arnold and Committee Member Jim Niemann both expressed concern that a new ordinance banning Sharia Law would be redundant with local, state, and federal laws already in place.
