The Effingham Fire Department recently acquired a new emergency extrication tool, commonly referred to as “jaws of life,” that includes both a cutter and spreader in one. Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker attended a demonstration of the new device in action at Heartland Towing in Effingham.
“There are two things I learned from this demonstration,” Mayor Bloemker said. “One, you need to be in good shape to handle one of these units. And, two, if my family is ever trapped in a crushed car I can only pray a team such as the Effingham Fire Department shows up with one of these units. I can confidently say that in terms of public safety, the Effingham Fire Department is doing all it can to save lives.”
The new tool was purchased from Sentinel Emergency Solutions.
