The Cubs offense struck early as the team scored seven runs in the first three innings and held on to beat the A’s 7-2.
The Cubs scored four runs in the first behind a Dexter Fowler solo home run and a Jorge Solar three run home run to give the Cubs a 4-0 lead. The Cubs added three runs in the third on a Heyward RBI single and a Báez two run double to make it 7-0. The A’s got on the board in the sixth with an Eibner solo home run and a Semien RBI single to make it 7-2.
Lester got the win improving to 12-4 on the year. Lester gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8 over 7 innings. Overton took the loss falling to 1-3 on the season. Overton gave up 7 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 over 3 innings.
