Philip Mette, of rural Effingham, was selected as Legionnaire of the year at the Annual American Legion Department of Illinois Convention last month in Springfield.
Mette is a life member of the American Legion with forty four years of continuous membership in Teutopolis Post 924. He has also served as post commander, the 23rd District Commander, a 5th Division commander, and currently serves as both district and division adjunct. Mette is also active in Legion Americanism programs like the high school constitutional speech contest and the Americanism essay contest. Additionally he has severed on the state Americanism Commission and is an active member of the National Americanism Commission.
Locally, Mette is involved with the Effingham County Marine Corps League, and Voiture Forty and Eight. He also served on the Effingham Veterans Assistance Committee. He is also active with the St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
