The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest early Sunday morning after an alleged Criminal Sexual Assault occurred Saturday evening in rural Effingham County.
County Deputies arrested 58-year-old John R. Laver and charged him with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class X Felony, and Aggravated Unlawful Restraint, a Class 4 Felony, for the incident. According to Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler, charges allege that Laver used a knife in a sexual assault and bound the victim using duct tape. His bond has bond set $250,000.
Laver appeared in Effingham County Court on Tuesday and was appointed a public defender. His first appearance with his attorney will be on Monday, August 8th.
The investigation into the alleged sexual assault is ongoing.
