The Cubs got 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth to get a 5-4 win against the Marlins.
The Marlins got on the board first with a RBI double in the top of the first. The Cubs tied the game back up in the sixth on a Contreras RBI single. The Marlins took a two run lead in the seventh on a Mathis two run home run. The Marlins added another run in the eighth on a Yelich solo home run to make it 4-1. The Cubs got a run back in the bottom of the eighth when Fowler scored on a wild pitch. The Cubs then scored three runs in the ninth on a Fowler sacrifice fly, a bases loaded walk to Zobrist, and a wild pitch that scored Szczur.
Neither starting pitcher got the decision. Cubs starter Lackey gave up 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 8 over 7 innings. Grimm got the win in relief. Marlins starter Koehler gave up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1 over 6 innings. Ramos took the loss in relief.
The Cubs are off today but begin a series with the A’s on Friday.
