The St. Louis Cardinals got the bats working and beat the Nationals 9-4.
The Cardinals got big offensive games from Matt Holliday who homered in the eighth. Also getting RBI’s were Greg Garcia, Matt Carpenter, Molina, and Grichuk. Pitcher Adam Wainwright and pinch hitter Matt Adams also each had 2 RBI’s.
The Cardinals struck struck first with 4 runs in the first thanks to a RBI Single by Grarcia, a 2 run RBI double by Wainwright, and a RBI double by Carpenter to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. Washington came back with a home run by Zimmerman in the bottom of the second to make it 4-2. Matt Holliday homered in the double of the third to make it 5-2. A Grichuk double in the fifth made it 6-2 Cardinals. Washington got a home run from Harper in the sixth and a second home run from Zimmerman in the seventh to make it 6-4. The Cardinals put the game away with a two run double by Adams in the eighth and a sacrifice fly in the ninth to win 9-4.
Wainwright got the win. His record is now 5-3 on the year. Wainwright pitch 7 innings giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and striking out 5. Gonzalez took the loss, falling to 3-3 on the season. Gonzalez gave up 6 runs on 6 hits over 4 and 2/3 innings. He also struck out 6 and walked 4.
