In anticipation of Mid America Motorworks’ Fun Run Road Tour ending in Downtown Effingham, The Effingham Tourism Department announced that it will hold a Welcome Fest at the Courthouse Lawn Gazebo tomorrow from 5-8 p.m.
The 18th Annual Funfest for Air-Cooled Volkswagen is projected to bring in thousands of participants over the weekend. Effingham Tourism Director Jody Thoele said “The Downtown Welcome Fest is not only a great opportunity for us to welcome visitors to our community, but also for residents to come and check out some one-of- a-kind Volkswagens. We try to make it something the whole family can enjoy and we’re excited to add some additional activities to our event this year.”
The VW parade is expected to begin at 5:30 and will feature around 300 unique vehicles rolling into town said Abbey Depoister with Effingham Convention and Visitors Bureau. Activities at the Welcome Fest will include food, giveaways, artisan vendors, and live music from Tequila Mockingbird.
“There will be a lot of activity downtown that evening, and we hope residents will join us. And while you’re downtown, make sure to stop by all the wonderful shops in the downtown area,” said Thoele.
