Nathaniel Followell has pleaded guilty to the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death.
The charge against the 20-year-old Altamont resident is the result of an incident during the evening of Saturday, January 23 when he fatally struck a pedestrian with his vehicle. 40-year-old William Coleman of Beecher City was killed in the accident. Coleman was walking along Moccasin Road near Lake Sara when he was fatally struck by the vehicle.
Followell told police that he drove four passengers in his vehicle away from the scene of the accident before returning. The four passengers were all underage and had been drinking. Followell was found with no drugs or alcohol in his system. When Followell returned to the scene he notified police. He has told authorities that he first determined that Coleman had passed away before leaving.
Sentencing for leaving the scene of a fatal accident ranges from one to three years with the option for probation. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 13th at 1:00pm.
