The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has announced that Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area near Ramsey in Fayette County will be closed indefinitely. Ramsey Lake is being closed because of the termination of electrical services at the park. The electrical service is being shut off due to a lack off funds caused by the ongoing budget impasse.
Ramsey Lake site staff will be reporting to Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area while the closure remains in effect.
Ramsey Lake campgrounds and picnic shelters had already opened for the season. IDNR will now contact campers with reservations to work out other arrangements or refunds.
Horseshoe Lake State Park near Granite City will also be closing, effective on Monday, April 25, due to the termination of trash and electrical service.
There is no estimate of when either site might reopen, but the Department intends to reopen the parks as soon as services are restored.
