Last month the Effingham County Board voted to expand the County’s Housing Authority from five to seven members. The Board explained previously that the reason for the expansion was a desire to have one of their members on the Housing Authority. Housing Authority rules don’t allow for expansion by just one member. H
Effingham County Housing Authority Executive Director Gina Hardiek attended Monday’s Legislative Committee meeting to discuss the Board’s decision. Hardiek expressed that the Housing Authority was not aware of the change when it was made. Board Chairman Jim Niemann accepted responsibility for the lack of communication, and explained the decision further. He explained that the Board wanted to address procedural issues, noting further that the Housing Authority isn’t being single out as the Board is placing a member on the 708 Board as well.
On the subject of the 708 Board, the Legislative Committee announced that they are accepting applications for a new member. The 708 Board works with mental health issues in the County. The Legislative Committee and the County Board will hold off on acting on appointing a member to the 708 Board until next month.
