Wednesday’s winter storm caused a number of cancellations, and left many people in the area without power. In Effingham County more than 1,500 power outages were reported, while residents in Cumberland, Fayette, Clay, Shelby, and Richland Counties were impacted as well.
The power outages were caused by downed power lines, which fell because of the high winds in the area. Across the state, Ameren Illinois alone reported more than 120,000 outages.
Crews continued to work through the night to restore those remaining areas without power.
