Congressman John Shimkus of the local 15th congressional district has announced that he has been endorse by the National Rifle Association. Shimkus is being challenged in the March 15th primary by Kyle McCarter. McCarter is currently the State Senator of Illinois’ 54th District, which features a number of local counties.
“Based on your consistent and proven voting record on Second Amendment issues in the U.S. House of Representatives, you have earned an “A” rating from NRA-PVF for this primary election. An “A” rating is reserved for a solidly pro-gun legislator who has supported NRA positions on key votes and issues,” the National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) said in its endorsement of John Shimkus for re-election in the 15th Congressional District.
The endorsement letter noted Shimkus’ support for the NRA by listing voting record in pro-gun matters.
Shimkus said, “I am proud to be the only candidate in this primary to be endorsed by the National Rifle Association. I appreciate the recognition, as I have always been a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and its protections of an individual’s right to carry.”
