Hunting totals are up for the first weekend of the Illinois Firearm Deer Season. The state Department of Natural Resources says hunters harvested nearly 58,000 deer from November 20th through the 22nd. In comparison, hunters took 51,830 deer during the first firearm weekend in 2014. Looking locally, all area counties also saw an increase during the first weekend when compared to a year ago.
Looking at area counties, hunters took 624 deer during the first weekend this year compared to 519 last year. Clark Country increased from 648 last year to 723 this year. Clay County increased from 695 to 761. Cumberland County increased from 422 to 483. Fayette County increased from 1035 to 1154. Jasper County increased from 632 to 670. Shelby County increased from 693 to 832. Marion County increased from 979 to 1090.
