The Illinois State Police in District 12 are reminding motorists to buckle up before heading out for holiday travels. During the 2015 Click It or Ticket mobilization, troopers will be conducting seatbelt patrols to encourage all vehicle occupants to wear seatbelts, in order to reduce traffic crash fatalities.
Over the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Illinois, 15 people lost their lives and 840 motorists were injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes. Five of the fatalities involved alcohol.
Police say that late night hours are the most dangerous driving hours, when the highest percentage of motorists die in alcohol-involved crashes, and seat belt usage is the lowest.
