The HSHS St. Anthony’s Foundation recently received a thoughtful donation from the Patricia “Pat” (Ritchie) Rezabeck family for the hospital’s Healing Garden. For their generosity, an engraved plate was placed on one of the benches in the Healing Garden.
This charitable contribution by the Rezabeck family was in the name of Dr. William J. (Bill) Rezabeck, an Effingham area podiatrist and medical staff member for 35 years. Mrs. Rezabeck recalls that “when we chose to make Effingham our home in 1970, the deciding factor was the Hospital’s generosity in granting Bill surgical privileges at a time when this was a rare occurrence. I have always had sentimental ties to the area through my great-grandparents and grandparents in Teutopolis, and was actually born in the ‘old’ St. Anthony’s Hospital. Bill truly enjoyed being a part of the hospital family,” she said.
Donations to the Healing Garden are used to expand and grow the garden for the enjoyment of colleagues, Medical Staff, patients, and visitors. Pat shared, “Bill would have appreciated sharing his ‘memories’ with everyone who is able spend some time in this beautiful garden.”
The Healing Garden at HSHS St. Anthony’s was dedicated by the Foundation in May 2009. Located between the Prairie Heart Institute at St. Anthony’s and the Chapel, The Healing Garden offers a place of peace and comfort for patients, visitors and hospital colleagues. Please feel free to visit The Healing Garden anytime you are looking for a place of serenity and solitude.
