Good news for my fellow coffee addicts, a new study has connected coffee drinking to longevity. In fact, the study found that people who drink three to five cups ‘o’ Joe a day had about a 15 percent lower risk of premature mortality.
There are some caveats. First, too much caffeine is still bad for you, so don’t overdo it. You don’t want much more than 400 milligrams a day as studies have shown that at that level it could impact your ability to sleep. Second, the study only points to a correlation between coffee and a decreased chance of mortality, not a causation. In other words, drinking coffee will not make you live longer. Instead, people who drink coffee are statistically less likely to experience premature mortality.
Most likely, the benefits of coffee are linked to chemicals in the beans, although scientists have not specifically found which ones.
