The Altamont School Board was updated on progress in the classroom to address the District’s failure rate. Early in the current school year there were nearly sixty Altamont students failing at least one class. At the midterm of the first quarter the failure rate was at 15%. That improved to 11% by the end of the quarter. The goal is to get under 8% by the end of the first semester.
The School Board also heard the results of the annual review conducted by the State Fire Marshall’s Office. The review included a complete facilities walk-through. Only three immediate issues were found that needed to be addressed. An exit in the weight room was obstructed by a piece of equipment and an alarm pull box was obstructed in the weight room by another piece of equipment. The other immediate issue was that the BBQ grill propane tank had not been disconnected from the grill. Those have all since been rectified. An inspection of sprinkler system was also ordered following the review.
The Board also heard the results of the Compliance Review, which was conducted by the Regional Office of Education. The review found the District was 95% compliant for certified staff, as the official transcripts from universities for four certified staff members are still being waited on. The District was found 100% compliant for non-certified staff. The level of compliance relates to proper documents being filed and on hand for staff members.
