The City of Effingham has selected Niemerg’s Steakhouse as the recipient of the City of Effingham’s Business Appreciation Award. Mayor Bloemker stated that “Niemerg’s has earned the right to be called an Effingham institution.” He went on to say “Thank you to Niemerg’s Steakhouse for faithfully serving it up hot in Effingham for 37 years.” The City of Effingham Business Appreciation Award is a bi-monthly recognition for businesses that show success in growth, employee retention, customer service, and positive community promotion. Niemerg’s was nominated for the award by Quen Hardiek, an Effingham resident.
Niemerg’s Steakhouse first opened its door 37 years ago in a 9,000 square foot space. They have since doubled in size and have undergone eight expansions adding more seating, a lounge area, and a catering service. Niemerg’s employs 170 people in total, 35 of which have been with the restaurant for 20 years or more. The restaurant also employs around 35 high school students and contributes $21,000 annually in scholarship support for student workers.
Niemerg’s also is known for its excellent customer service. According to Niemerg’s owner, Gene Niemerg, many customers eat there multiple times a day. Niemerg added “Our waitresses know them so well that they know what drinks they will want and bring the drinks immediately to the table.” Niemerg’s is also a destination for travelers and sees many annual customers traveling to and from summer homes and vacations.
Since Niemerg’s opened its doors in 1978, they have been supporting the community through charitable giving. Over 90% of Niemerg’s employees give to United Way with over $3000 in yearly support. Niemerg’s also hosts a fundraiser where the restaurant donates $1.00 of every Chicken To-Go Special sold to United Way. Last month the fundraiser made around $3000. Niemerg’s also supports Catholic Charities, Family Life Center, the local Special Olympics and area schools.
Congratulations to Niemerg’s Steakhouse on receiving the City of Effingham Business
