Whether you like chess or not, it can’t be denied that the famous World Chess Championship match between Bobby Fisher, and Soviet Champion, Boris Spassky in 1972 had enormous political significance. The new film “Pawn Sacrifice,” starring Toby Maguire and directed by Edward Zwink (Glory, Legends of the Fall), seeks to capture the Cold-War political tension of the seventies. The film also centers on the consequences of Bobby Fischer’s genius and growing paranoia. The tense geopolitical situation in tandem with Fischer’s own ambitions and personality should make for a thrilling historical recounting. Even if chess isn’t your thing, check out the new featurette! “Pawn Sacrifice” hits theaters September 16th.
