Many area counties saw improvement to their jobless rates in February. This comes after area unemployment increased in January. In February Effingham County had an unemployment rate of 6.3%. That is an improvement from 6.5% in December. It is however an increase from February of last year, when the jobless rate came in at 5.5%.
Looking at the rest of the area, Clay County’s unemployment remained at 9% from January to February.
Coles County improved from 7.5% to 7.2%;
Fayette County improved from 8.8% to 8.4%;
Cumberland County improved from 7.4% to 7.1%;
Jasper County improved from 8.2% to 7.8%;
Marion County improved from 8.4% to 7.8%.
