Chicago, IL-(Effingam Radio)- In response to the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) refusal to defend the Affordable Care Act against a legal challenge, Citizen Action/IL, Co-Director, Lynda DeLaForgue released the following statement:
“The Trump Administration continues to attack the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with every possible weapon in its arsenal, sabotaging America’s health care and putting the insurance companies back in charge of our healthcare. Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld the ACA as constitutional, the Department of Justice refuses to uphold the ACA’s consumer protections that stop discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions, including 5.5 million non-elderly people in our state.
The DOJ should be doing its job and enforcing the law of the land. Instead, Trump’s DOJ plans to help insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, raise premiums and out-of-pocket costs, charge women more for coverage, and put preventive care out of reach. Despite repeated failed attempts to repeal the law in Congress and overwhelming bipartisan opposition to repealing the ACA in communities across the country, the administration continues its war on our health care.
We should be expanding access to health care for all, not re-litigating a question the Supreme Court already answered years ago as part of their continued partisan political effort to repeal and dismantle the ACA piece by piece.”
