ALTAMONT, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Two people were injured in a multiple vehicle accident that occurred five miles east of Altamont on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at 1:20pm on I-70 eastbound at milepost 87.5.
The release states that a semi tractor-trailer driven by 32 year old, Ilir Hamo, of Orland Park, Illinois was traveling eastbound on I-70.
Hamo reported to authorites that at that time, his front steer tires failed to respond.
This caused Hamo to drive through the median, strike an embankment, and overturn.
The semi then crashed into a guardrail on the north side of the westbound lanes, blocking both lanes.
A semi driven by 46 year old, Mohammad Ghafarri, of Twin Falls, Idaho was unable to stop in time and crashed into the Hamo semi.
Hamo was transported to Carle Hospital in Champaign/Urbana by Air Evac.
Ghafarri was taken to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Charges are pending an investigation.
