EFFINGHAM, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council met on Tuesday evening.
During their meeting, the Council approved a temporary street closure for the Middle of America Craft Brew Fest.
During this event, which is set to take place on June 30th, the portion of Banker Street between Jefferson Street to Section Avenue will be closed from 8:00am to Midnight.
Effingham Tourism Director, Jodi Thoele, said that the event is set to run from 1:00pm to 11:00pm.
It will include tastings, food, and music.
Additionally, the Council declared the property at 1606 S Fourth Street as dangerous and unsafe.
Effingham City Attorney Willenborg informed the Council that the property has holes and failures in the roof, as well as sagging, cracking, and separating in the foundation.
Willenborg stated that previous attempts to resolve these issues with the Council’s declaration were met with no response.
Also, further inspection on Tuesday showed no evidence of activity.
Additional items covered by the Council include:
- Reappointed Brian Hayes, Dave Storm, and Jeff Staser to the Effingham Plan Commission with a three-year term to expire on May 1, 2021.
- Appointed Amanda Emmerich to the Effingham Public Library Board of Directors with a one-year term to expire on April 30, 2018.
- Heard Mayoral Proclamations for Buddy Poppies Days on May 3-5, Travel and Tourism Week on May 6-12, Nurses Week on May 6-12, and May as Lupus Awareness Month.
