Effingham, Ill. (Chicago, Ill.) – Cook County is suing Facebook and Cambridge Analytica on behalf of everyone in Illinois.
Lawyers for the county filed the suit yesterday in Chicago.
The lawsuit claims Facebook and Cambridge violated Illinois’ new consumer protection law that limits what type of data big online firms can capture and use.
The suit wants 50 thousand-dollars for each person in Illinois who had their data sold, and another ten thousand-dollars a day, for each day the companies broke the law regarding a senior citizen’s data.
