Effingham, Ill. – Last Friday at approximately 6:27 pm first responders were called to Cumberland county for a two vehicle accident on I-57 near milepost 176 south of Neoga.
Upon arrival, they found an overturned vehicle driven by Katie Reis, 23, of Naperville and a vehicle stuck in the median of I-57 driven by Brianna K. Morton, 21, of Champaign, with passenger Jeffery Morton 55.
Illinois state police released a preliminary investigation reporting that at the time of the incident, Morton was driving northbound, and while attempting to change into the next lane rear ended Reis.
Following the collision, Reis’ vehicle skid off the road way into the median striking multiple crash posts, and overturned before stopping in the south bound traffic lanes.
Simultaneously, Morton had lost control of the vehicle striking a ditch in the median before coming to a stop.
Reis was transported by ambulance to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon for treatment of minor injuries while Morton was cited for improper lane usage.
