Two people were injured in an accident that occurred 3 miles south of Effingham on Monday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on I-57 northbound at mile post 156 at 2:22pm. The report states that a vehicle driven by 20 year old, Donta Johnson, of Chicago was traveling northbound in the left lane. When Johnson attempted to change lanes to the right, Johnson lost control of the vehicle and skidded sideways off the roadway to the right. The vehicle then went through the grassy ditch, up an embankment, and into the woods. The vehicle struck a large tree on the driver’s side before coming to a rest. Johnson and a passenger, 18 year old, Kenna Johnson, of Odin were injured and taken to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. Donta was then taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana for further treatment.
Donta Johnson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving on a revoked driver’s license. Both Johnsons and a third passenger, 24 year old, Shiquita Washington, of Chicago were cited for failure to wear a seatbelt.
