Effingham, Ill. (Clay County) – This past week the Clay County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) Arrested Brandon O’Dell, 33, of Ingraham after he allegedly shot an unnamed 29 year-old male in an accidental discharge in Wendelin.
According to the preliminary investigation received by CCSD earlier today, “Dell had a loaded handgun and the victim (a friend) was attempting to disarm him, due to a fear of the suspect harming himself or someone else.”
“During the struggle for the handgun it was discharged causing the bullet to strike the victim in the leg.”
When police arrived on scene, they found the victim with the gunshot wound, and O’Dell.
The victim was taken to a local hospital.
He was immediately treated, and released Yesterday morning.
O’Dell was arrested, and taken to Clay County Jail where he awaits his initial court appearance.
The office of the Clay County States’ Attorney was contacted for further comment, however there was not an immediate response.
