Effingham, Ill. (Punxsutawney, PA) – It looks like we’re in for six more weeks of winter weather, thanks to Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog in America.
As he does every year on Groundhog Day, Phil emerged from his burrow this morning in Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania as a crowd of thousands waited to see if he would spot his shadow.
He did, meaning – as the story goes – winter will march on for another six weeks.
Had Phil failed to find his shadow it would have meant that spring is right around the corner.
It was the same outcome last year, with Phil “predicting” cold weather to continue. It’s apparently like that a lot.
Records show Phil has seen his shadow more than 100 times compared to forecasting an early spring less than 20.
