Effingham, Il (Via Springfield) – Illinois will likely lose one seat in Congress after the 2020 Census.
But, there are new fears that the state could lose two.
The latest Census numbers show Illinois lost over 33 thousand people since July of last year, dropping Illinois to the sixth largest state in population.
If the losses continue, experts say Illinois could lose two seats in Congress.
Illinois has 18 members of Congress right now, and the state had 20 in 2000.
State Congressman John Shimkus, representing the 15th District, was contacted for a statement regarding the possible changes, however there was not an immediate response.
