(Springfield, IL) — Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is asking the Illinois Supreme Court to block step raises for some state employees. Step raises are pay bumps given to unionized state workers based on longevity, not accomplishments. The governor stopped paying the raises back in 2015 and the state’s largest public employee union, AFSCME, sued. A court earlier this year ordered the Illinois Labor Relations Board to revisit the issue. The governor’s office yesterday asked the high court to settle the issue once and for all.
