(Schaumburg, IL) — The Republican challenger in next year’s race for Illinois governor says it’s time to shrink the number of school districts in the state. State Rep Jeanne Ives on Wednesday told the editorial board at “The Daily Herald” that small schools with big budgets are killing the state. Illinois has over 850 school districts across the state, Ives said the first step to shrinking that number is to combine local elementary and high school districts into community districts. That could eliminate hundreds of smaller elementary school districts.
