(Chicago, IL) — Whether it’s the hundreds of millions of dollars that Illinois could see in new taxes or the millions of dollars that could be saved in law enforcement, advocates say legal marijuana could help the state. Illinois lawmakers got another earful about the benefits of legalization yesterday at a hearing in Chicago. Noted travel expert and marijuana advocate Rick Steves told lawmakers that most anyone who wants to smoke pot is already doing so. Legalizing marijuana, he said, will just eliminate the black market and allow the state to benefit from sales.
