(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner isn’t saying where he stands on an abortion funding bill that he’s been on both sides of previously. The bill passed by the General Assembly would extend abortion coverage to public employees and women on Medicaid. As a candidate, Rauner said he favored it, but more recently he said he’d veto it because of the controversy over government funding of abortions. Now, he’ll only say he’s meeting with advocates on both sides of the issue. Democrats are currently holding the bill, which would also assure that abortion rights would continue in Illinois if Roe versus Wade were ever overturned.
