UPDATE: (2:30pm) A home on South Fourth Street in Stewardson caught fire on Thursday.
We spoke with Battalion Chief Quandt with the Shumway Fire Department while on scene at the fire. According to Chief Quandt, the Shumway Fire Department was called to the scene for mutual aid to the Stewardson Fire Department shortly before 12:30pm. Upon their arrival, fire crews saw smoke and fire in the residence. The fire crews entered the home at the add-on to the residence, where the majority of the fire was at, and started to ventilate the space. The roof of the add-on then collapsed and the fire crews started to go on the defensive to make sure that the fire did not extend into the rest of the residence. At the time of our interview with Chief Quandt, fire crews had made entry into the main part of the residence and were extinguishing the flames that had extended. They had also believed to have knocked down the main fire in the add-on.
