One person was killed in an accident on I-70 E/B, approximately two miles east of Montrose at milepost 107 yesterday at 1:33pm.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, a car being driven by 61 year old, Daniel T Waterfill, of Plainfield, Indiana and two semis being driven by 73 year old, Dale E Bondy, of Waterloo, Iowa and 44 year old, Alerto Rios, of Mexico were slowed or stopped in the construction zone. A semi being driven by 24 year old, Cole A Johnson, of Shelbyville failed to stop and struck the rear of Waterfill’s car. This caused Waterfill to strike the rear of Bondy’s vehicle and Bondy to strike the rear of Rios’ vehicle.
Daniel Waterfill was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. Cole Johnson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Traffic was rerouted in Montrose following the accident.
