A man is in Carle Hospital following an accident that took place while he was attempting to flee from Mattoon Police.
According to a report from the Mattoon Police Department, a caller alerted the department shortly after 12:00pm on Wednesday to a male sitting in a truck in the BP gas station parking lot on Charleston Avenue. The caller alleged that the male was Blake Bolin, who was wanted on a Coles County warrant. 911 dispatch confirmed that Bolin was wanted on a failure to appear warrant for possession of Methamphetamine. Additional information on Bolin’s warrant stated that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
When officers arrived at the gas station, an officer approached Bolin’s truck. However when he saw the officer, Bolin reversed the vehicle and fled from the gas station. The officers began to chase Bolin, who headed onto North Route 45 outside of the city limits. The chase ended when Bolin turned into the southbound lane of traffic and struck a CN Railroad 10 wheeler truck. Neither occupant of the CN truck were injured, but Bolin was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Champaign.
The incident is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
