One person was injured in an accident involving four semis that occurred on I-70 westbound in Cumberland County at 4:27pm on Tuesday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, 50 year old, Juan Lazaro Naranjo Blanco, of Fort Worth, Texas was approaching the one lane construction zone near mile post 111. Blanco failed to slow and struck 56 year old, Beriz Bosnjakovic, of St Louis in the trailer of his semi. The impact forced Bosnjakovic to strike the rear bumper of a semi trailer being pulled by 64 year old, David Talkington, of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. Talkington was then forced to strike the trailer of an unknown semi. The unknown semi left the scene of the accident prior to exchanging information.
Bosnjakovic was injured and was taken to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment. Juan Lazaro Naranjo Blanco was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Due to the accident, I-70 westbound was reduced to 15mph and delayed drivers for hours while the accident was cleared up.
