There is a new phone scam going around the area and this one is posing as HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital.
According to a press release from St Anthony’s Hospital, they have received calls from residents that have received a call from a number listed as St Anthony’s that claims to want to lower the patient’s hospital bill. However, this caller then talks about lowering or consolidating the patient’s credit card debt. This call is not from St Anthony’s. The hospital states that this caller has spoofed the hospital’s information via phone as well as caller ID.
HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital urges all residents to be cautious when receiving a phone call soliciting information or assistance. They recommend that anyone who receives a call that claims to be from the hospital ask the caller for their extension to call them back. Then you should call the hospital’s main number at 217-342-2121 and ask for that extension. They also urge everyone to not share information with callers until you have confirmed that they are legitimately with the hospital.
