(Unknown) — Illinois homeowners are footing one of the higher mortgage debts in the country. A new study from financial site 24/7 Wall Street has found Illinois in the top half of its “States With the Most Mortgage Debt” list. Using U.S. Census Bureau data from a 2015 survey, Illinois’ average mortgage debt is more than 176-thousand-dollars. The study found California has the highest average mortgage debt, while West Virginia has the lowest.
