The Illinois State Police recently released the law enforcement figures from the recent Memorial Day weekend as well as their “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
Memorial Day weekend was on May 26th through the 29th. During this weekend, the Illinois State Police issued 5,585 citations and 4,597 written warnings. Of these, 80 were individuals driving while under the influence and 530 were seat belt violations. Officers also assisted 576 stranded motorists on the holiday weekend.
In addition, the Illinois State Police conducted their “Click It or Ticket” Campaign on May 12th through the 30th. During the campaign, officers issued 9,615 citations. In addition to these citations, officers made 165 driving while under the influence arrests, and wrote citations for 306 cell phone violations, 1,999 seat belt violations, and 146 child restraint violations.
Illinois State Police Director, Leo Schmitz stated, “I am extremely proud of the hard work and effort put forth by the members of the Illinois State Police. There is no telling how many lives were saved by the enforcement efforts”.
