One person was injured in a semi accident that occurred on I-70 eastbound, approximately 4 miles west of Effingham, at 5:30am on Friday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, 47 year old. James D. Donaldson. of St. Charles, Missouri was traveling eastbound in a semi on I-70 when he fell asleep. Donaldson left the north side of the roadway, crossed the median, and entered into the westbound lanes of I-70. Traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, Donaldson crossed under the overpass for CR 800E and left the roadway to south and re-entering the median. He then crossed the eastbound lanes of traffic, leaving the roadway, crossed the ditch, and struck a cable fence. Donaldson came to a rest in a corn field. He was transported to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Donaldson is being charged with improper lane usage, driving while under the influence, driving while fatigued, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
