The Effingham Chipotle restaurant was affected by a card security incident that took place in March through April.
According to Chipotle’s website, they have new information regarding the incident following investigations conducted by leading cyber security networks, law enforcement, and card networks. The investigation revealed a malware that could access card data from the point-of-sale (POS) devices. This malware read the magnetic strips on the cards when used on the (POS) and could access the cardowner’s name, the card number, expiration date, and the internal verification code. Additionally, there is no indication that any other customer information was affected. The Effingham restaurant was affected by this malware from March 27th to April 18th.
Chipotle reminded customers on their website to always review their card statements for any unauthorized activity, and that if any activity is discovered to immediately report it to their card issuer. During their investigation, Chipotle removed the malware. They also have been continually working with cyber security networks to enhance their security measures.
