Six people were injured in an accident that occurred 7 miles north of Salem on I-57 northbound shortly before 9:30pm on Sunday.
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, 53 year old, Michael Medina, of Brookfield, Illinois was traveling northbound on I-57, when he struck a deer in the middle of the roadway. Following Medina was 30 year old, Jill L. Edwards, of Braidwood, Illinois. Edwards was able to stop her vehicle in time to avoid striking the back of Medina’s vehicle, but was unable to avoid hitting the deer. 32 year old, Cindy Rae Hamilton, of Effingham was traveling behind Edwards but was unable to stop and struck the back of Edwards’ vehicle.
Jill Edwards and her passengers, 32 year old, Christopher Edwards, 51 year old, Tina M. Fonck, an 11 year old male, and a 5 year old female, all of Braidwood, were transported Salem Hospital for treatment. Hamilton’s passenger, 30 year old, Kristi M. Duckwitz, of Effingham was transported to Salem Hospital as well. Charges are pending further investigation of the accident.
