Blessings in a Backpack Effingham are celebrating a successful school year as the 2016-2017 school year comes to an end.
This past school year, Blessings in a Backpack provided food for 450 children each Friday. The food was sent home with children that suffer from hunger over the weekend, and schools have noted the difference it makes. They have cited better attendance, higher test scores, and improved behavior in the classroom. In January, Blessings in a Backpack changed their program for Junior High School children by providing vouchers to a pre-determined food selection at Martin’s IGA instead of sending food home.
Blessings in a Backpack thank all of their volunteers who helped to make it a successful year. The summer food program will be held at First Presbyterian Church. For more information about Blessings in a Backpack or to donate, visit www.EffinghamBackpack.org or email effinghambackpack@gmail.com.
